I used the 3M Postit Paper to make a stencil for the shadow layer. It worked wonderfully and peeled off easily without taking any paper with it. Love this snowflake from Cheerful Seasons. The top layer is cut with a cream colored shimmer paper. OhhhSnap attached the following image(s):

Beautiful card. That snowflake is one of my faves too; I have some decorating the walls of my classroom.
I love browns as a background for snowflakes, and have even done LOs of my children sledding where my base was a dark brwon. It is, IMHO, a too often overlooked combo.
