 Alrighty! My three questions are: My Cricut Expression 24" didn't come with a usb cord - should it have? Are updates available for these machines? Do you have to buy design studio to get a usb for cricut - or can you purchase a general usb not branded by cricut? Thanks Bunches for any insight!! m.

I think it is supposed to....if you don't have a gypsy you will need that cord to update your E2

Mine did not come with a USB cord. You need to purchase a cord - the same as when you get a printer - most do not come with the cord. It is the same cord.
I don't update my Cricut though.

no it doesn't come with a USB cord and you don't need to update it unless you are using design studio, gypsy, or cricut craft room

Cricut Expression does not come with a USB cable and updating is done thru the Cricut Design Studio Software which DOES include a 10 foot USB cable and a VERY COOL Cricut Mouse pad. worth every bit of $20 USD on Ebay everyday.

I have a Cricut Expression from Walmart that did not come with a USB cable. I want to begin using Cricut Craft Room but can't without the cable. I have USB cables but the plug on the back of the Expression doesn't look like a regular USB plug. Do we need a special cable for this machine? It's not a standard USB to USB cable.

It is a standard cable - but not the USB - USB type. That is an A to A cable. You need the A to B cable - same as you use on a printer. My expression did not come with a cable. You can purchase one just about anywhere. Type A to B USB cable:
