I bought a package of chipboard at Joann's that works GREAT with my E. Now I want to make glittered chipboard letters. Does anyone know an easy way of doing this? Has anyone tried this and what have you used? Thanks!

Can I ask you what the brand name of the chipboard was? I saw a package of chipboard in the scrapping section, but I'm not sure if it's the right stuff. I've read on here that some of the chipboard Joann's sells doesn't work in the E.

Thanks!

EXACTLY!! my favourite all time way to do it!!!!!

I made a project not that long ago where I used my xyron - the link is here - and I offer a couple little tips that work for me when applying the glitter.

If you don't mind leaving the mb to check out a blog here is my link: Life is a Beach Project with Glitter

I bought a huge package of 8x11 sticky paper (like mailing labels but it is the entire sheet). Since I don't really care all that much about dimensions... I use that. Simply cut the shapes, peel off the backing layer, and glitter. Obviously you have to put the paper in upside down or flip the design if you put it in the 'correct' way.

Not to derail this thread but HOLY SMOKES. I'm IMPRESSED. I love this! I have LAB and I haven't really used it, except to cut out a few random fish for a fishing LO. I'm bookmarking your blog and I'm going to try that project you did, except I don't have a Xyron, but that's okay :)

Oh, OP, thanks for the info! I think that's the pack I was looking at. I'll have to go back to J's soon.

I've been waiting for them to come down in price... as of now I might just order one from amazon for $20 with my gift cards that I got from swag bucks BigGrin

Ya that might be the best deal. I think you can use a 40% coupon on them at Joanns? I should of waited to use my 50% off coupon on it at HL but I needed it that night.

I use something like this to cover my chipboard pieces and glitter them. I bought my double sided adhesive sheets from CTMH, but I have seen them in Michaels. I lay my chipboard face side down on the adhesive sheet and then cut around it with a craft knife. I then pull the backing away and add the glitter to it and press the glitter in a little before I shake it off. I find that this holds the glitter better than my xyron....I must have got a bad batch of adhesive or something. Anyway, you can see the card that I made with this method here: Diva Card with Rock Princess (I used stickles on the crown section) HTH

This is the same chipboard I use. It cuts so nicely and is very sturdy.

There are a number of different adhesives you could use ... But I have to agree with the majority here ... using a Xyron is faster, easier and best of all, the results are as good or better than anything else I've ever tried.

Another bonus ... no drying time is required!

I do xyron too. However if you need the glitter letters bigger than what will fit through your xyron, spray on adhesive works well with larger projects. Just spray the chip board letters and the stick them in a tub of glitter. I find this way faster if I am doing lots of letters. I usally use spray adhesive outside an/or in a covered container because it does tend to spray outside the intended zone.

I got mine between T-giving & Xmas for $5. I kept going to all my local WM to find Jolly Holidays for people on the board (btw I was able to make 5 lucky board members happy!). As a reward I found the Deep Cut blade on clearance at a store that eliminated their craft section.

I've used the Zyron a lot for this as well, but another less messy way or if you don't have lots of glitter or paint colors is to just cut glittered cardstock the same size/shape as your chipboard cut and glue it on top.

Yes, glitter cardstock is a great way to go - I just don't like how quickly it dulls my blade from cutting itBlink

I use both ways mentioned and they work great. What I also do in either case, is to spray the finished product with glue (Elmers Bond..) to help really seal in the glitter.

I know this is a very old post but just in case -- I have a question. Exactly what kind of Elmers Bond do you use to seal in the glitter? A regular adhesive would leave it all sticky if you put it on top of glitter.

My zyron is so sticky. I don't know what I am doing wrong. When I put stuff through it doesn't stick all over and leaves the glue boogers no matter how much I rub the plastic cover before I take it off the paper.

thanks for the info
How do you get rid of the extra glue that isn't supposed to be on the chipboard?
