Hi,

my wife asked me to find her some help, unfortunately she doesn't speak english.

She saw the paper lanterns on the main cricut.com page and wanted to make some of her own. We found some instructions http://www.cricut.com/tv/pdf/PaperLanterns.pdf

but I can't find any infos about the striped "roofs" (sorry, don't know the correct english phrase) of the lanterns. Does anybody know? Did I miss something? The instructions seem to cover the main lantern only, not the "roof" part. Do you just have to make something up on your own?

Thanks for help or ideas!

Christian

Thanks for your effort, but that's the same instruction that I already mentioned in my original post. It helps with the body of the lantern, but it doesn't say how the cover is made or attached. And the lanterns with the teepee shaped cover look even better than the ones without any cap.

Should anybody still wonder which lanterns I'm talking about, they appear on one of the four big images on the main page:

Yes, the designers made the lantern tops from basic shapes to fit their lantern size. The round lantern tops are made from a circle with a wedge cut out and then the ends are glued together to form the cone shape. The square top is basically the same. Let me make a few screenshots.

Do you have one of the Cricut design programs (Design Studio, Gypsy or the new Cricut Craft Room)?

For the round lanterns, cut a circle and cut following the red lines in the screen shot and score to make a little flap. Glue the flap under the other edge. To determine what size circle to start with, I would use a ruler on the top edge of your lantern and decide how tall you want the top to be, double that amount and use that as the diameter of your circle.

It was discussed in an earlier thread - but still no answer for you on the tops. Might just have to try and come up with something on your own? Let us know if you crack the code!!!! BigGrin

The square top is similar but you need all 4 "sections, so using triangles to make the pattern works better. After cutting, add glue to the flap and attach it under the opposite edge.

If you have one of the Cricut design programs, I'd be happy to make a file and send it to you. BigGrin

@scrapalette:

Wow, thanks a lot for the detailed instructions and yes, my wife has a gypsy. CCR doesn't work for us, can't log in from the desktop version...

I'd be glad if you'd be willing to share your file. Just use my email: sirwillibald(at)gmx.de

I'll make a gypsy file and send it in a bit. I just used the mat in CCR to show the shapes and did the line markings in MS Paint. Once you have the file, you can change the basic shape to one will scalloped edges for the different tops.

No need to apologize, no matter how long it takes, I'd be happy anyway. Kid's birthday is more important by far! BigGrin

I had created a file in CCR using the George and Basic Shapes cart for the square and circle tops. I just posted a link to the file on my blog for anyone that wants it. If you don't have George, you can switch to shapes from carts you do have.

Thanks a lot, unfortunately I can't use CCR (login problem with desktop version).

Is there a way to convert this into a Gypsy file (don't have CDS either)? Never tried before...

If not, I think I'll be able to open your file online and make a gypsy version on my own.

Thanks again!

Hi Christian,

Your anti-virus program is most likely blocking CCR. Which program are you using?

Thanks for help, but I already ruled that out two month ago by deactivating it (using BitDefender).

But you can never be sure, so I just gave a new try five minutes ago (even reinstalled CCR and updated Air) and...
Now CCR repeatedly states that CCRbridge.exe has crashed, as long as the CCR login screen is open. Really frustrating, but at least it's something new... Angry

Already tried a reboot, same result.

What happens if you totally exit out of your anti-virus program (including Windows Defender)?
