Gypsy® device firmware 0227 update – Available 02.09.12

This update includes the following:

Cutting to the Cricut Mini™ with the Gypsy® device:
• The Gypsy device must be updated to the 0227:0234 (0227 firmware and 0234 content) version through the Cricut® Sync program found at www.cricut.com/cricutsync
• The Cricut Mini firmware must be updated to Version .23 in order to communicate with the Gypsy device .
• If the Cricut Mini requires a firmware update, you will be prompted to visit Cricut Craft Room™ to perform this update when the Gypsy device is connected to the Cricut Mini machine. Simply follow the screen prompts to complete the update process in Cricut Craft Room.
*Note: Cricut Mini cannot be updated from Gypsy device.

Cricut Expression® 2 machines:
• This release supports all Cricut Expression 2 machines including those with the 1000 firmware version

Corrects the blue & black screen that some Gypsy® devices were experiencing:
• We strongly encourage ALL Gypsy device users to update their device to the newest version (0227:0234) through the Cricut® Sync program at www.cricut.com/cricutsync for best results.
• This update will prevent the black screen and blue light some Gypsy devices were experiencing; however, it does not repair them.
• If you have a Gypsy device displaying a black screen and blue light, please contact Cricut® support 1-877-727-4288 | Monday-Friday: 7am-6pm MST

Corrects Cricut® cartridge linking issues associated with the following cartridges:
• Pagoda
• Close to my Heart - Art Philosophy Cricut® Bundle
• Celebrate With Flourish
• Everyday Pop-Up Cards
• Cake Everyday Sampler

Gypsy Linking to Cricut Craft Room™ is coming soon!

Does this mean I need to update my Expression 2 Anniversary Edition or my Gypsy or both?

I am posting this to this thread too. Ok I did the update but am not to happy with it. I do not like to link my carts to the gypsy. Only when necessary and I can not cut from my gypsy unless I have the cartridge linked. If I have the correct cartridge in but not linked to my gypsy is says I do not have the rights blah blah!!! Is this going to be possible or is anyone else able to cut from cartridges that are inserted into the Mini but not linked to the gypsy. Any help with be welcomed. Thanks Melissa

PS I can cut from CCR with the cart inserted in the mini just fine. I tried Winter frolic and Cake basics and both were detected and cut just fine but when I used my gypsy and had the cart loaded in the mini when I got to the cut screen it says I do not have the right to these images..blah blah. Anyone else test this. Melissa

With the G, the Mini is just like any other Cricut as you have to link the cart to cut.

This is nice and all but how about the option to cut the E2 Anniversary Pre-loaded carts with my gypsy. It would be great if you went back and fixed the older items instead of starting new things and fixing things that were introduced after the E2 Anniversary.

Thanks so much for your answer to this Mercy. I thought for sure that I used my gypsy with my expression and cut with carts not linked as long as I put them in the machine. I can't keep up with all the different ways thing work. I thought that you didn't have to link if you had the physical carts. Thanks Melissa

Boy do we wish that is the way it works but it does not. In order to cut with the G, the cart has to be linked.

FYI - When you are doing this update - only check one box at a time. Update each piece separately so it won't stall out or mess up your programming

I am so upset with This! Your notice suggested ALL gypsies should update. So I did. Funny, how the machine worked just fine until I updated. NOW I get the same black gypsy screen I have always gotten, and the blinking blue light. But NOW it starts blinking red and turns itself off.....

What is the problem with your company and updates? I wasted an afternoon when I could've done something productive. Oh, and your notice says: Call Monday - /friday if you get the black/blue screen. Great. Today is saturday.

Wow, so sorry that this happened to your Gypsy. Is there any chance that the Gypsy needs to be charged up? I know when mine starts flashing in red, and shuts off, I need to charge it. I don't know if charging it would make any difference. I don't know anything about the new problems that Gypsies are having after the update, but just wanted to see if possibly charging it would help at all. Maybe someone will know something that might help your Gypsy and post it here. Hope it starts working for you.

the red light flashes and the g turns off when the battery is dead/dying. plug it in and turn it on and see if that helps. you should always have it plugged in when updating and cutting...even if it is fully charged. makes a difference i don't know why...lol. hth

Yes, like the Previous Posters stated - try charging your Gypsy and see if it works after that. And definitely keep your Gypsy plugged in during updates. If the Gypsy is not plugged in, not only does it use the battery more quickly, but it also slows down the update and can actually cause it to stall.

Well, I had my G plugged in and it still stalled right at the very end of the updating process. Wasted 2 H & 36 min. The update didn't take. What to do, what to do. Nothing to do but pull out the few remaining hair on my head. Why do I always have problems, yikes.

When you went into the update and it said you had updates available - did you select them all and tell it to go or did you check only one box at a time?

If you did them all, it has been stalling on some people and corrupting (the Imagine update seems to really bug the Gypsy). Instead do the update and do one update at a time. I generally do firmware first and content last (it is longest).

See if this works - if this is what you did- Have you shut the Gypsy off and then back on? Sometimes it needs that as a trigger for the update installation.

Thank you Trista for saying that. I was so pissed off when I read that you could link the gypsy to the mini. But what about us who have the E2. It's not right at all!

Thank you for this information Amy. I'll keep available for the next update.

I didn't have a chance to check my G until a few minutes ago and it appears the update did take I show Version 02270234. Just don't understand why Cricut Sync kept on running when the update (apparently) was completed. Anyway, there are now 4 mat sizes to cooridnate with each cricut.

Best,
Mary R.

I updated my Gypsy today through the Cricut Sync and it said "Your Gypsy is up to date. Digital content rights have been updated." But when I look under Cricut Sync/Help/About it says the Gypsy Firmware Version is: 0211. Not 0227. I can not sync the Cake Everday Sampler cartridge to my Gypsy and I think this is why. How doe I get the Firmware Version to update? Anyone else have this problem?

There were quite a few people who had a problem with this firmware update, so PC pulled it from C-Sync (on the 15th or 16th) and placed the prior version back up. Their engineering team is currently reviewing it to determined why it froze some gypsies. They will put it back up when that review and/or fix has been completed. HTH

Thank you Coah'sNana. That does help. I just read that on another post on here. I will check back in a few days to see if they have fixed the problems.

Thank you all you kind and patient people, you were right. My gypsy must've needed a battery charge. And thanks to Amy S, I kept it plugged in when I went to update is today...seems all is working well...sorry for my impatience. Blushing . But I will say, that I didn't know you were to only check one update at a time. That comment helped also...

Now I am back off to creating again!
