I'm referring to the new holiday cartridges. They designed three different cartridges with winter/holiday stuff on them. Three different pieces of plastic with electronic parts inside. Three different pieces of plastic packaging. Three different paper inserts.

I really have a hard time believing they couldn't fit all of those images onto one cartridge. I think it was a decision made based on what they figure will bring them more profits, with no consideration for being green. Think about it - many people will think nothing of paying $20 for each of the three, because in your mind, you feel like you're getting a cartridge for $20 (which you are, but in reality, it's only a third of a full content cartridge).

But think about it this way... when was the last time any of us paid $60 for a single cartridge? hmm...? Good marketing strategy, I suppose, but like I said, not very green.

What are your thoughts on this?

They aren't making all those boxes and handbooks that come with full size carts, which I'm sure is more costly than the plastic they put these carts in.

The plastic and electronic parts cost less than printing and paper and binding.

I like the idea of the mini carts..out of the three, I would probably buy 1....so instead of buying a cart with 2/3 of the images I might not use, I'd rather pay $20.00 (I have seen them for less) for one of the mini carts that I would use.

There aren't allot of companies out there where "green" means environment.  It usually means $$$, bottom line, profit margin etc, etc.

Well I was thinking this today, but not on the three different cartridges. I was thinking it about the mats. We really should be able to recycle them or something. Turn them in and get some money off new mats. The only thing wrong with them is that they aren't sticky any more. I used a zig pen to make mine sticky again - but you know.

what about all the plastic packaging on the products we buy, not to many of those are recyclable. I would like to see the companies start with that.

My family is always teasing me about my recycling. I will take anything home from anywhere if I know I can recycle it. Like our beverage lids from the bowling alley, so on and on... But then they say mom how many thousands of scrapbook paper do you own? Really mom how many trees have to die to support your habit.

LOL

I like the idea of being able to buy a cart that I'm going to use, instead of 500 images that I'm not going to use, that way i get my $ worth.
The worst company for not being green are the Food Companies.
So much packaging going to the wasteland.

I think it is great marketing. I like the fact of only having to spend $20 instead of $50- $60.

most people use those plastic clamshell packages for cuttle bug embossing folders.

It is just as much up to the buyer to be green, as it is for the manafacturer. Some people may not want all of that extra stuff in one cart, if they can buy what they want for a smaller price. That makes perfect marketing sense to me.

There are many plastic recycling programs in place, some more conventional that others... The companies can only do so much, the rest is up to us - the buyers! If you want to complain about someone else not being green, I suggest you take a look at everything you are all doing - or not doing. None of us is perfect, Let he who is not guilty cast the first stone.

I was also remembering some of the surveys I've taken over the past and one of the things I always requested was cheaper carts! It doesn't bother me. $20 dollars is easier to come up with than $40, $50, $60!
