Hi Ladies... I made the impulse buy the other night on HSN with my FB friends urging me on... Now I am waiting for it to arrive before 11/12 and I am starting to think did I do the right thing? I have the baby bug, the E and I used Design Studio for everything. I am not as creative as everone on the boards but I do use my DS all the time. (mainly for titles and embelishments with the occasional card or two.) But I wanted to know from those of you who bought the Gypsy and are loving it do you already have DS and feel that you use both? Or are most of you Gyspy owners  just Gyspy and not DS/ Gyspy? Does that make sense? Please share with me your experience so far.  I am a gadget person but am wondering if I really needed this. I can possibly see using it while at my daughters Karate classes. BUt going to crops will I prefer the Gypsy over the DS with the laptop? HELP!!!

Thanks for input Buffy

I have both and use my G more than I ever did DS.  However, partly because I didn't have many carts.  I find that now I have my G, I don't want to use DS.  I don't like changing out carts.  With the G, I don't have to worry what is in my jukebox.

Also, when I go to crops, I don't need to take all the carts...just my G.  I do use it at my daughters swim practice.  My Laptop is really big, more of a desktop replacement even so, it is so much easier for me to put my G in my bag and go.

I love using the stylus, it beats the pad on the laptop anyday.  Which is great when you are on the go.

It's perfect for me because I am doing my best to remain portable, light weight, and remain functional. I was deployed for a year and was unable to do any scrapbooking at all. Now that I'm home, I like being able to pick up, go, and still create along the way. I have the Create to use when I'm away from home, along with DS on a netbook, and now my G. My son says it's just an excuse to buy more toys. He may be right, but in my mind, I'm justified, lol.

Hi,

I have had my Gypsy for a week and find it inspires me to create.  I take it where ever I go and use it when I have a spare moment.  I like the fact that I can link my cartridges to it and take them with me.  I mainly scrapbook at places besides my home and it is nice to be able to take the gypsy versus all of my cartriges and my jukeboxes.

Hope this helps.

I got the Gypsy because I never had DS. I am a MAC user and never could use it. This gives me a portable DS. So far, so good !!

I LOVE my Gypsy and I think it is better than DS because for one it is more convenient to use. It was always a pain to design on DS and then wait until I could cut things to hook up my cricut to it. Love that I don't have to go searching for cartridges anymore through boxes because they are all linked to my Gypsy, that I can take it anywhere to design, and that I just hook it up to my cricut wherever I may have it and am able to cut. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Gypsy!

Oh, and just one more thing I think I have done more since I got my Gypsy than I have in the past year with cardmaking/scrapbooking/crafting just because I can take it anywhere!

Thanks for the replies... Guess what was on my doorstep when I got home this cute little machine. Now I am seceretly waiting until my DD goes to bed and I can start to play... I have to load and update all that stuff I hope it goes smoothly.

Question... IF I design on DS can I cut through the Gypsy to act as a Giant expensive juke? Just a thought if I am home on the laptop? I haven't gotten through all the threads.

Your last statement is what I plan on doing with my "G".  I love, love my DS and will not give it up as the big screen is a plus.  BUT now that I can design on the DS and save as a .gypsy file and then cut with my "G", I am in hog heaven!!!
I do like being able to take my "G" and design when I have some down time.  It is going to b great for taking on my vacation to my MIL's next week.  I plan on doing the titles, images, etc to the pictures that I take.  Then when I get home, I can print my pics and the embellishments, titles are all ready to go.
I plan on letting my son's GF take my carts to use as I hopefully won't need them as much.  I am buying her her own carts too but this way she can play to her heart's content.

I got everything set up it seems I loaded all my carts. Now one more question.... IS there a way to view only my carts like on DS I love the Drop down to see just the fonts I have rather than scrolling through all of carts available that is too many.

thanks...

Linda, that's what I'm doing too. I'll give my carts to my daughter and let her create away. Young marrieds don't have a lot of $$$ for extras, and I can't be at her place all the time. The G is giving the whole family a chance to have fun.

No, you can't look at just your cards.  If you scroll through them using the arrows on the bottom of the screen, your carts will be in dk green and the ones you don't have linked are in red.  If you look at the list on your screen, your carts are the bold ones.

I've used my Gypsy more in the past 6 weeks than I have used DS in the past 2 years. I just enjoy it more and find it so much easier to use.

I am loving my Gypsy!  I love the portability.  Also, I have a ton of carts (more than 65), and I find myself using more and more of the carts that I hadn't been using because I don't have to pop them in and out of my Cricut.  And it is really easy to use.  Hope you have fun!

I just ordered a Gypsy and can't wait. I have DS but my computer and cricut are two different parts of the house and frankly a pain to move when I want to cut. I found myself not using DS just because of that. Now with the Gypsy I will not have that problem and was super excited to know we can change our DS to a gypsy cut file.

Buffy-

I don't know if  you are doing this or not, but if you tap the white bar at the bottom of the screen that has the name of the cart on it, it will bring up a list of all the carts.  You can scroll through that list a WHOLE lot faster than using the arrows.  HTH!!

Suzanne,
Thanks I just found that and that makes it so much easier to scroll rather than using the arrows to go through the carts.

My next question...How do I know if I have the latest update with layers? I always seem to use my layers in DS and really would miss this feature....

2nd Question.... Saving on the Gypsy I am the OCD type of person and like my files to be in order. Is there a way to organizing my files on the GYpy? I haven't figured out the whole file transfer to the PC and back yet.

Thanks again...

I love using both. It all depends where I am when I decide to do some designing.
