Nilda just asked the question on this MB about whether or not we prefer photos in the MB posts or if we minded going to a blog to see photos. Now, what is the big deal with blogs? I keep seeing posts asking for people to become followers of somebody's blog. I'm ****uming blog owners pay some sort of annual fee for their blog. This in turn, allows them the priviledge of posting whatever they want there. But, other than just patting themselves on the back that they made someone look at their blog, what's the deal with asking for people to follow their blog? Can't they just put a counter there to see how many hits their blog has had? Before I get all the blog owners up in arms, I'm just asking a question here! LOL!

There's no fee for most blogs, it's just a kind of online journal :-) It's a little easier to have a blog - it's easy to search and archive and all family and friends can view it :-)

No fee, just an online journal for some and a place to showcase your work, share information or host events (like Raks or blog candy) for others. I showcase my work and sell my tutorials through my blog.

I've only had my blog for a little while....It started as a place for me to compile some of my favorite projects to share with others. I had no idea anyone would even sign up to follow, but rather it was more for myself. However, the more followers I got, the more I wanted to make it fun and inspiring...it challenged me to do better and come up with new ideas. Now I'm totally addicted and Love the fact that so many find inspiration on my blog. Yes, I Love the positive comments and the praise, too! It's just fun, inspiring, and addicting. So when are you going to join the blogging world?

Well blogs are supposed to be online journals..but have become more marketing tools. I will say this about my blogs.. I have 3 blogs. one is my papercreationsbynilda blog. I use it to post my projects, stamping, cricut... etc.. I also have 2 challenge blogs. One is The cuttlebugspot and the other is The Gypsy spot. I have those for weekly craft challenges . One is sponsored by Custom Crops wich helps me because I can offer a weekly prize to all my visitors. I think this makes the challenges more appealing. In return I have their name as a sponsor on my blog. There are some blogs that have become more businesses.. recruting sponsors for freebies and charging fees for ads on the blog. It all depends on how many followers you have. If a business sees you have a lot of followers, they are more likely to send you goodies to showcase, or give away. Thats why you see lots of bloggers asking you to sign up to follow. HTH.

I just have a blog for my family to enjoy. I've posted the blinkies and things required to enter some giveaways, but I don't have others that view it other than my friends or family, so I don't really help those folks get more viewers. I don't really want others seeing all just those I really know. I prefer to be a little more private.

Don't get me wrong, I do visit blogs that have links here on the MB. And IMHO they do look like a lot of time and effort is put into maintaining them. Not being a blogger, and having no interest myself at this time to have one, I was just curious about all the emphasis lately in the MB posts related to blogs.

Hi Linda, I have had my blog for over 3 years now. I first started it to keep in contact with my local SU! customers. Over the years it has grown to so much more. For me my blog is a place where I can post & share what is going on in my life....without taking up space on a message board. It's kind of like my little corner of the web.

I do a blog and post a new project everyday. I post a link to my blog so people can check it out. I don't think i have ever asked someone to be a follower, but i guess it's like having friends on facebook. My blog is crafting only, no family chatting or anything. Most Design teams require that you maintain a regular blog and they want to see it. http://holleybarnhartsblog.blogspot.com/ It is fun to look back at projects I did many months ago. It also lets me put my work in one place instead of uploading the same photo to a bunch of groups and forums

I personally blog for a several reasons. One is so my friends and family can come and see what I have been working on. Two is that I teach and advertise my classes on there. Third is it is like an online journal of some of my favorite things I have made. It is kind of like an online resume. Fourth is I post coupons for everyone to use and people would be sad if they did not have one place to go to get their coupon fix! Another reason is that when you post an image here on the Message Board. It becomes property of Provo Craft. If I post it on my blog, I retain rights to my image. I still own it!

I wasn't sure where to post this question so I thought I would throw it in here as well. I follow several blogs but I never get updates on them. Where do I look to see if they're updated with new information? I thought I would some how be notified so I know when to check out a friends blog.

ORIGINAL: Pattywitha(Y) Now I have managed to be sucked into first MySpace.(My neice had to set it up for me) I neglected that. then I had certain friends insist I start a FaceBook... That has become an irritation because I have people contacting me I do not want to be contact with from my long agao past.(They can look up my brothers name...then find me through his FB site ) Now my other niece has suggested a Blog to store all my projects. I don't know if it is worth it...that is why THIS post grabbed my attention as well. I also am courious as the need to "BlogHop" and subscribe etc. Now I have to say..I broke down and entered a contest. Next thing I knew I had over 100 emails just from that site from all those that signed up after me!! So I removed my name and canceled the subscription to that site. Good luck with your quest, patty thats funny.. I did myspace a while back..and abandoned it very quickly.. then FB....its ok.. but I keep getting all these badges and stuff... Now my DH started FB and wants to prove he can get 100 friends.. so all his school friends are getting in touch with him.. I do think he enjoys it.

My blog is about having fun, but it sometimes feels like a full time job! I do have a lot of followers, and Nilda is right, if you have a high profile blog you do get approached by a lot of people asking if you will sponsor their products, some I am on the design teams, others don't fit my style (whatever that is, I'm still looking). Recently I have had some approaches from people asking if they can advertise and offering quite a lot of money for that, but I have never wanted to turn my blog into a business, so have turned those offers down. I love writing, and sharing snippets of my life which my readers seem to enjoy as well as the cards I put on there. For me, it's always been about sharing. Having said that, having a blog has been a blessing to me, it was through my blog that editors of magazines 'found' me and now I work as a freelance card designer for them on a regular basis. which supplements the pension nicely, and keeps me occupied. GI Jane, if you go to your dashboard (where you sign in) and scroll down a bit, all the blogs you follow will show up there, with a little photo and the first few lines of the updated post, click on that if it interests you and it will take you to the blog.

I started my blog so people could have a place to go and find all my .cut files. It was getting rather time consuming to be emailing the files. I know one night long ago I spent over 4 hours emailing .cut files to different people. It wasn't long after that I started my blog.
