How long does the mat usually last before the sticky is gone? Has anyone ever tried quilt basting spray? Could this be used after the sticky is gone?
New to Cricut and still learning, but very wasteful.

I have used the quilting spray!!  I was skeptical, but figured I would give it a try.  I scrapped off as much gunk as I could...taped off the sides.  I then sprayed it and let it set....I actually let it set over night.  Now, it makes it very sticky, but after a couple uses, it gets to be normal.  AWESOME!!  I agree that the spray is the way to go....the glue stick does not last as long!  I have read women who have had their mats for 4 + years....I think that is true!

I am new and learning, too.

Yes, this stuff works wonders. I usually either wash my mat w/hot soapy water and let it dry, or wipe it down with a wet wipe and let dry before I mask off the edges of my mat and spray with the basting spray.
I have been using the same 3 mats for over a year now!

I use the quilt basting spray and I have had the same mats for over a year.  I only wait 30 minuets after spraying it down and it is ready to use.  At times it does tend to get super sticky so I just wipe it down with a baby wipe and let it dry and good as new again.

There was another thread about re-stickying a mat, but can't remember where.  Concensus was that the quilt basting spray works great, and several postings mentioned the ZIG repositional glue in the squeeze tube.

I was using two mats that had lost their "stick"; I wiped them down with a couple of baby wipes (also upon the advice of the posters on the other thread) and let them dry thoroughly.  Voila!!  Sticky mats!  Should last long enough for me to get to the craft store for the basting spray!!

Hi,
I have been using the Zig jumbo tip. I read about it on a thread a little while ago. I wash the mat with warm soapy water, let it air dry, then apply the Zig. Works wonders! One poster said she was using the same mat for over 2 years!
I am so happy not to be wasting 13 bucks on mats every two weeks!
Enjoy!
Colleen

My favorite re-stick is Elmers Poster and Picture Stick.  It looks like a glue stick - you can find it at any Office Supply store.  You just put on a thin layer and it stays sticky like a miracle.  I like it becasue I don't have to spray or wait or anything (ok, you're supposed to wait 30 seconds after you put it on...).  I keep it right by my mats.  I can also just put it where it needs like in the corner or something.  It's about 2.00 per glue stick and lasts forever.  Just Google it and you'll find it.

I read on a post to use the krylon spray. I used it about 2 weeks ago and it works great. The only draw back is that I had to do it outside because of the fumes and it's really cold, but it only takes a second. You do have to tape it off and let it dry over night but if you have several mats you can always have a fresh mat on hand.

I use the Krylon Easy-Tack spray(repostionable adhesive). At Michael's it was $6.49 used a 40% off coupon and paid $4.16 tax included. It will last forever.

honestly I think I'm the most hardest on cutting mats,I haven't replaced it yet but I did follow everyone advice and used the batting spray!!! it's wonderful!! it works like a charm and a brand new mat!!
I cleaned it off with baby wipes
let it dry and sprayed the entire mat(after taping off the edges)
it's AWESOME!!! I'm still amazed!!

THANK YOU LADIES FOR YOUR FINE SUGGESTION!!
